This is a wonderful vintage McCall's 7482 cocktail dress sewing pattern from the 1960's

I was actually one of the best dressed winners

At first, I thought of adding horsehair to make the dress bubble out at the knee, but a 3-year-old is too wiggly for that much structure, so I cut the dress wide and gathered some elastic into the ankle-height channel
